From Oberdorf towards Herrensteig path, right before you turn to Luvens-Herrensteig path you turn left and get to the
Plaiken or Bleichbrünnl fountain.
First mentioned in 1574. It was known as a thermal spring.
The water was considered to have healing powers.
On the day of the devasting earthquake in Lisbon, on November 1, 1755, the spring dissapeared; on cold days steam is still raising from the soil.
Ever since the water has always been the clearest and best of the whole area.
The rural population (especially women) came very often to the spring.
And every morning some tourists were also resting next to the spring.
They were sitting there, drinking water and having a conversation.
Also the lyric poet Hermann von Gilm (1812 - 1864) spent many years at the Gigglberg mountain. In this paradise he relaxed and got inspired to write his song cycle "Sommerfrische in Natters".
Near the fountain he met his muse Josefine Kogler at a regular basis.
It's an idyllic, historic place, which is still a popular place to take a rest on hot summer days!
