Admont is situated in a wide valley basin of the Ennstal (known as the "Gate to the Gesäuse"), just before the river Enns carves its way gorge-like through the Gesäuse for 16 km. Since 1977 Admont has been a European community, and each summer the Admonter music festival takes place.
The beautiful Benedictine monastery of Admont (founded in 1074) houses the world´s biggest monastery library. Furthermore the column of the Virgin Mary (1712), the Leopoldinenbrunnen well (1892) and Schloss Röthelstein castle - Europe´s most beautiful youth hostel - are cultural highlights that are well worth a visit!
