Skiing fun in Lower Austria means wonderful experiences on first-class slopes for all - be they snowboarders, carvers or skiiers. Moderate pistes, gentle slopes on soft hills and first-class ski-courses for beginners, more demanding grounds and slopes ranging to the famous "Buckelpisten" for the experts.
Lackenhof, that is the name of Lower Austria´s secret snowboarding-star. The "Boardorado" on the foot of the Ötscher Massif is irresistible with its glorious pistes and many events. It is not without pride that the village on the base of the Ötscher calls itself "Boardorado": a 100 m halfpipe, a permanent boardercross-trail and a whole series of special events are the reason for Lackenhof´s excellent image amongst snowboarders.
Lower Austria: the wonderland for cross-county skiers!
Next to the alpine possibility of locomotion on two skis, cross-counrty skiing turns out to be the long runner of winter alternatives.
Hint: Every Friday and Saturday from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, the "Cross-country Skiing Center Panoramic Slope Hochreit" offers a 2 km floodlight-slope (classic and skating). Groups are welcome anytime - just make your reservation in advance.
... as you stroll through the many big and small, idyllic Advent Markets in the broad land - here you can enjoy the anticipation of a peaceful and happy Christmas season or even purchase one or the other Christmas present for your loved ones.
Nowhere else can you experience the magic of winter quite as close as here: landscapes covered thick with snow, forests glittering romantically in the winter sun, magical clearings and the brilliant snow-covered mountains. All this can best be experienced with snowshoes - which look like tennis rackets on your feet.
Even without skis you can enjoy winter in Lower Austria to the full: through the glittering landscape by horse-sledge, gliding across the safe layer of ice, traveling through fairy-tale landscapes on a sled, or - very romantic - in a down-to-earth woodchopper´s hut.
