The Endlessness. The Village. The Arts. The Bridge.
Surrounded by the endlessness of the "Burgenland puszta", Andau offers recreation, leisure and sports activities, entertainment and social gatherings but also something unique and very special: History and the arts.
In 1956 the bridge of Andau became a global symbol of freedom and helpfulness for thousands of Hungarian refugees whose odyssey ended in Andau.
Today the village of Andau is a meeting point for many international artists, who line the former getaway with their objects and sculptures.
This very impressive open-air gallery reaches from the village of Andau to the Einserkanal right at the Hungarian border. Both as a reminder and as an act in the spirit of tolerance and humanity, the Austrian and the Hungarian part of this open-air-gallery were connected by a new "Bridge of Andau" in 1996.
The border to Janossomorja/Hungary is open for cyclists and pedestrians from April - October.
