Welcome to Marchegg!

Only an hour´s drive from Vienna lies Marchegg, founded in 1269 Marchegg by King Przemysl Ottokar to increase the defence against the Magyars; today, many monuments remind you of the city´s great historic past.

The WWF nature reserves "Marchauen" and "Kleiner Breitensee" start right on the outskirts of the town and offer you ideal conditions for family trips.

Impressive: A visit to the biggest white stork colonies of Central Europe on tree tops.
141 m Elevation
2850 Inhabitants
Location: Riverside

The stork celebration of Marchegg takes place each year in June at Midsummer's Day.

The stork colony of Marchegg is something totally special! On the one hand, the storks have their nest on ancient trees like in the old days, on the other hand, their number constantly grows - in contrast to many other areas of Europe!
And thirdly, the white tree inhabitants are largely border crossers: They have their nest in the west and eat in the east - in the wide, Slovakian grasslands they still find enough food.
The WWF, the stork capital Marchegg and the Slovakian neighbours are happy to celebrate the impressing nature spectacles with you!
