This municipality was created in 1970 by joining the four existing communities Gansbach, Kicking, Gerolding and Mauer. The landscape is characterised by numerous small villages and farms between densly wooded, soft mountain hills.
The largely unspoilt nature, clean air and charming landscape invite you to walks and hiking tours.
A famous sight can be found in the old church of Mauer: The pilgrimage church "Maria am grünen Anger" accommodates the famous gothic altar from the year 1509.
A former, well preserved Roman bridge, the defensive church in Gerolding as well as the massive church of Gansbach with a painting by Martin Johann Schmidt, also known as "Kremser Schmidt", are destinations for history and art interested people.
Well managed inns invite you to linger or to a longer, relaxing stay.
