Imbedded in the wildly romantic mountain world of the Mostviertel region, the natural park Ötscher-Tormäuer, Annaberg lies on a sea level of 700 to 1,400 m, between the Mariazeller land and the Ötscher land. For 900 years Annaberg forms part of the "Via Sacra", the holy pilgrimage route to Mariazell, and is thus a popular excursion target.
The emblem, the pilgrimage church dedicated to the Holy Anna, doesn't only retrieve a treasure of gothic wood craft, but also an empirial present from the year 1660: The brainpan of the Holy Anna, which is of course fake, but used to be a worshipped relic.
The Tirolerkogel with its 1,377 m height is a very popular hiking mountain. The comfortable hiking tour from Annaberg up to the top of the mountain and back down again lasts 3 hours. The path is also easily managable for families. The view from the top is really nice and you can make a break at the Annaberg house, which is open the whole year - even in winter, when the alpine touring people meet.

Whoever likes hiking along cool water, should choose the water supply dam Wienerbruck near Annaberg as the starting point of the route. Bizarre rocks, shady chasms and a wild river create a fresh atmosphere.
Numerous waterfalls seam the beautiful path near the hydroelectric power station. Especially impressive:
the Lassing fall, where the water of the Lassing river falls 90 m.
