When you visit the inns and alp cottages in Annaberg, you will feel that you are in the Mostviertel region. You can find traditional dishes from the regional and Austrian kitchen on the menu. The "Schofkas" is very characteristic of this mountain region. It's a very mild creamy cheese made from sheep milk or a mixture of sheep and cow milk.
"Most" from the Mostviertel region - made from pears and apples - is very popular.
A new dish with traditional roots is the "Anna soup", a creamy soup, which doesn't only give pilgrims on their way to Mariazell the strength they need.
