A visit to the Benedictine monastery Altenburg (founded in 1144) with its great 208 m long eastern front is also worth seeing. The monastery offers wonderful stucco decorations of the 17th and 18th century. Especially worth seeing is the colourful library, one of the greatest rooms of its kind in Austrian monasteries. Ceiling paintings by Paul Troger. Beneathe the library the crypt with grotesque paintings (death´s dance) and attractive stairway.
