The enjoyment of wine is not simply a matter of taste: At the LOISIUM in Langenlois, wine is a wholly sensual experience.

The Cellar World with its fantastical scenery staging brings you a little closer to its secret. Anyone wishing to taste, smell, hear, see and touch wine will be enraptured by the LOISIUM !

One of the major attractions is the visitors´ centre. The area of 25 m x 25 m x 13 m was designed by the leading New York architect, Steven Holl, and boasts impressive architectural details and fascinating use of light. The outer skin is made of brushed aluminium.

Steven Holl drew the inspiration for his designs from the geometry of the cellar network and transforms this into an eloquent three-dimensional spatial language.

The Cellar World

A few steps away from the Visitor´ s Centre is a quarry-stone wall. As you approach, you will discover mysterious symbols and a magic gateway.

It is here that your journey into the wine underworld begins. The internationally renowned communication agency Steiner Sarnen Switzerland has created a fantastic setting in the cellars, some of which are up to 900 years old. Displays on the winemaking theme, moving sculptures, interactive projections, a joyful banqueting hall and much more await you in the 1 km long cellar network.

One of the tour stops is at the modern cellar of the Steininger Estate. Here you will experience how the grapes are accompanied with loving care from the vineyard to the bottle. The Karl Steininger name is synonymous with fruity, aromatic regional white wines and with numerous times prize-winning Winzersekt (sparkling wine).
