City-, Night watchman- and cellar lane guidances

The night watchman of Eggenburg

leads you through the nightly Eggenburg.

Whoever walks through the medieval town at night, can be happy about expert companionship. Our night watchman likes to accompany guided tours. He knows Eggenburg like the back of his hand and can come up with many anecdotes and stories about the fortified housing estate, rich in tradition, at the border between Wein- and Waldviertel.
During a tour close to the massive city wall - which is one of Europe's best preserved - you will learn from the well read night watchman amongst other things why the "Canntzler-" or the "Wahrsager Türn" were called like that and which enemies were the worst threat for Eggenburg and many other things.

City tour

with a medieval dressed guide

The medieval city invites you to a sightseeing tour. See the parish church St. Stephan from the 12th century, the fully preserved town wall and have experience of the Middle Ages at the chancellor tower.
At Eggenburg's historic "main square" the “winter row” with the painted house is the most beautiful row of houses in Eggenburg.

Guided tour in the cellar lane of Stoitendorf.

In the idyllic cellar lane of Stoitzendorf you can find rural "Presshäuser" and good wines.
As a further speciality the cellar lane can come up with a vine variety path. On an overall length of 200 m 5 examples of the most common Austrian vine varieties were planted.

All guided tours are available for groups from 16 people against prior notice for EUR 3,- per person.

For smaller groups a lump sum is to be paid.
