Classical Austrian varieties dominate: Grüner Veltliner and Riesling both occupy 40 % of the cultivated area, in addition the Nigl Family also grows Sauvignon Blanc (4 %), White Burgundy (4 %), and Chardonnay (2 %), and - as a soloits amongst reds - Zweigelt (10 %).
The classic locations significantly influence the quality and characteristics of the Nigl wines.
The most important Krems Valley vineyards are Piri (R, GV) and Hochäcker (R) - both are top locations in Senftenberg -, as well as Zwetl (GV) and Goldberg (R) as top locations in the lower Krems Valley near Rehberg.
The remaining vineyards are in Krems. The best locations amongst these is the Urgesteins-vineyard Kremsleiten (R) at the entrance of the Krems Valley.
Our family's dedication to cultivation of wine reaches back to the 18th century. We rise the challenges of yearly differentiations in climate with sensitivity and an experienced hand.
The conscientious cultivation of traditional regional grape varieties and the practice of sustainable principles without compromise are essential to our mission. The combination of solid craftsmanship, tradition and modern technology bring unique wines with distinctive complexity and elegance which reflect the unique micro-climate and soil of the Krems Valley.
These wines represent a living and inimitable cultural heritage and are far from being a mass-produced product. Wines that leave our cellar will continue to offer much enjoyment and pleasure with optimal, extended ageing. Our name is our guarantee.
Your Franz Tuerk
In the meantime, Franz Proidl represents the 9th generation of uninterrupted wine-growing.
Century-old experience, passed on from generation to generation, is combined with modern knowledge to guarantee wines of the highest quality. This starts in the vineyard, where natural fertilizers, clover and various grasses are used to nourish the plants.
Steep valleys and forests are not only Senftenberg´s pitturesque background scenery, but are also responsible for a unique micro-climate, in which loess and weathered stone soils create very fruity, sometimes even flowery wines of exceptional elegance.
Only the best varieties are used, such as Riesling from the Urgestein, Grüner Veltliner, Gelber Muskateller, Müller Thurgau, St. Laurent, Blauer Zweigelt, Cabernet Sauvignon and Blauburger. In the cellars, they are ripened to individual and interesting wines of best quality with lots of feeling, knowledge and patience.
