NATURE RESERVE VILSALPSEE LAKE

in Tannheim/Tirol

The Vilsalpsee lake is situated 4 km from Tannheim in a valley
with plenty of hiking destinations and two snack restaurants.

Over the last few years the Vilsalpsee recreation area has attracted more and more visitors. Since the winter of 1991 the Tannheim tourist board and authorities have therefore been trying to close the road for vehicles (except buses and handicapped people´s vehicles) from 10:00 am - 5:00 pm.

A shuttle bus (30-minute intervals in summer, twice a day in winter), carriages and the new original Tannheim Alpine Express make this area accessible.

In summer you can also get to the lake by walking along the road or the circular trail (with a connection to the Tannheimer Tal circular trail - accessible from all villages in the valley) or by bike (road is not very steep).

In winter you can reach this area on foot along the cleared road, on cross-country skis or by carriage.
In order to control the traffic car-parks for up to 800 cars have been built right at the east and west entrance of Tannheim.

Since the access to the lake is permitted until 10:00 am, you also have the possibility to park your car for a small fee right at the lake. Stopping and parking along the 4 km long road to the Vilsalpsee lake is not allowed.

The Tannheimer Tal valley with the Vilsalpsee nature reserve is an attraction which is the successful proof of a sensible symbiosis between unspoilt nature and responsible tourism.
